Winter Outerwear

With the onset of chilly weather, please be sure your children are appropriately dressed for outside play, especially if they arrive in time for morning recess at 8:00am. The general rule is that recess is outdoors unless the temperature and/or wind chill drops below 20°.

Lost and Found

Please remind your child to check the lost and found on occasion. We have already started collecting a few nice coats. The items are located in the cafeteria, so the students will see it every day when they have lunch.

PTO Trivia Night

The WES PTO will be hosting a trivia night on November 22nd. We have reserved the Mascoutah Sportsmen's Club for the event. There will be a silent auction with some tremendous items. The doors will open at 6:00 and the questions will start at 7:00. The theme this year is "Cowboys and Cowgirls." You can register a full table of 8 or join a partial table.

Salute to Heroes

We will be honoring our Veterans on November 8th with our 5th annual Salute to Heroes. 5th graders and 2nd graders will be performing a musical celebrating the brave men and women who serve this country. The performance will start at 2:30. Members of the United States Military will be coming to classrooms to discuss aspects of working in the military. They are invited to be our special guests at the performance.

We will once again be creating a Heroes Wall. Family members of individuals connected to Wingate who served, or are currently serving in the military, can have their photo displayed on the bulletin board by the cafeteria. Photos can be sent to school starting Wednesday, October 30th. Please put your child's name on the back so we make sure they will be returned.

Community Service Projects

Wingate will again participate in a food drive for the holidays. We will be collecting non-perishable food items from December 2nd through December 18th. The items will be donated to the local food pantry.

There are several local organizations that reach out to schools to help recognize students who could use some help making the holidays a little brighter. These organizations then work with the family to provide gifts for children. If you know of a child who would need some help this holiday season, please forward their names to the Wingate office.  We will ensure the connection is made.
